This
20 foot basking shark washed ashore on a beach in the Outer Banks village
of Sanderling on Thursday morning, Sept. 17, only 4 Days after swimmer
Richard A. Snead 60 was reported to have been fatally bitten by an unidentified
Shark while swimming near the Outer Banks community of Corolla. Basking
sharks are not considered dangerous to humans but contact with their skin
should be avoided because the large dermal denticles have been known to
inflict serious damage toi divers and scientists. The giant sharks are
generally considered tolerant of humans but have been known to attack
boats after being harpooned.. |
