Stephen Howard Schafer 38, was attacked by a pack of sharks while kite surfing just south of Stuart Beach in Martin County, Florida about 4:15 p.m. on Feb. 3, 2010. Martin County officials report a lifeguard spotted Schafer floating about a quarter-mile offshore and paddled to him on a rescue board. The lifeguard pulled Schafer from the attacking sharks and carried him back to shore where he was taken to Martin Memorial Hospital and later died from his shark bite wounds. |

Richard
A. Snead 60, disappeared during a night swim off Corolla Beach on the
Outer Banks of North Carolina on Saturday night, Sept. 12, 2009. Snead's
body washed ashore on a beach in Kill Devil Hills several days later
and was taken to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Greenville for
investigation. Medical officials ruled the cause of Snead's death to
be the result of a shark bite. Snead, a resident of the Pittsburgh,
Pa. area was vacationing with his familly in the Corolla area of the
Outer Banks. |

Dave
Martin, 66, was attacked and killed by a great White Shark while swimming
at Solana Beach, California Friday morning, April 25, 2008. A Witness
said a big shark grabbed both of Martin’s legs, causing deep jagged
lacerations, from the upper thighs to the lower shin. Martin died on
the beach waiting for an ambulance. The shark’s bite radius measured
22 inches. |

Jamie
Marie Daigle, 14, was attacked and killed by a Bull Shark on June 25,
2005 while swimming with a friend on a beach in Walton County, Florida.
Witnesses estimated the shark was about 8 feet long. |

Randy
Fry, 50, was killed by a Great White shark on August 15, 2004 while
diving with a friend in 15-20 feet of water, about 150 feet from shore
off Mendocino, California. His head was missing when his body was later
found. The shark was estimated to be about 18 feet long. |

Willis
R. McInnis, 57, was killed by a Tiger Shark on April 7, 2004 while surfing
off Pohaku Park, Maui, Hawaii. He died a short time after the attack
as a result of blood loss from severe wounds to his right thigh and
calf. |

Courtney
Marcher was killed by an unknown type of shark on April 4, 2004. She
disappeared while surfing at Velzyland, North shore of Oahu, Hawaii.
Her surfboard washed ashore lated showing signs of a shark attack. |

Deborah
Franzman, 50, was killed on August 19, 2003 by a Great White Shark while
swimming near Avila Beach, California with sea lions. The shark was
estimated to be 15-18 feet long. |

Sergei
Zaloukaev, 28, was killed by an unknown type of shark on September 3,
2001 while wading in the surf with his girlfriend at Avon, North Carolina.
Zaloukaev's girlfriend, Natalia Slobodskaya was severely injured during

Peltier, 10, was killed on September 1, 2001 after he was attacked by
an unknown type of shark while surfing with his father and brothers
at Sandbridge Beach, Virginia just south of Virginia Beach, . |

Thadeus
Kubinski, 69, was killed on August 30, 2000 by a Bull Shark while swimming
in Pinellas County, Florida. Witnesses said Kubinski had just jumped
into the water for a swim from a dock near his his home when the the
9 feet long sharksped toward him with its dorsal fin out of the water
and attacked. Kubinski died from massive blood loss and organ damage. |

Willie Tellasmon, 9, was attacked and killed by a Tiger shark on November
21, 1998 while swimming off Ocean Beach in Indian River County, Florida.
His torso and legs washed up on the beach the next day; however his
arms and head were never recovered. Experts determined from the wounds
that the shark was a six foot long tiger shark. |

Covert, 25, was attacked and killed by a 12 foot long Bull shark on
September 13, 1995 while scuba Diving near Islamorada, Florida. The
shark took Covert's body. |

Robinson 42, was killed by an 18 feet long Great White Shark on December
9, 1994 while diving at Harris Point near San Miguel Island, California. |

Michelle
von Emster, 25, was attacked and killed by a Great White Shark on April
16, 1994 while swimming off Pt. Loma, near San Diego, California. When
her body was later found she was missing a leg. San County medical examiners
ruled that she was killed by a shark attack after studying her wounds. |

Broach, age unknown was killed by a Tiger Shark on January 31, 1994
while surfing on the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii. |

Daniel
McMoyler was attacked sometime in December 1993 by an unknown type of
Shark while surfing alone. His body washed ashore on January 11, 1994
near Waipio, Hawaii and experts analyzing his remains determined a Shark
that was about 8 foot long was responsible for his death. |

Romento, 18, was attacked and killed by a Tiger Shark on November 5,
1992 while body boarding off Ke'eau Beach Park at Oahu, Hawaii. |
||
Bryan
Adona, 29, was attacked and killed by an unknown type of shark on February
19, 1992 while bodyboarding near Waimea Bay, Oahu, Hawaii. Adona's body
board was found the following morning with a 16-inch crescent-shaped
piece missing that experts claim were made by a large shark. |

Joy Morrel, 41, was attacked and killed by a Tiger shark in front of
witnesses on November 26, 1991 while swimming at Olowalu, Maui, Hawaii. |

Ray
Mehl Jr. was attacked and killed by a Tiger shark on October 14, 1989
while scuba diving near Kahi Point, Hawaii. |
||
Tamara
McAllister, 24, and Roy Jeffrey Stoddard were attacked and killed by
a Great White Shark on January 26, 1989 while kayaking just off the
coast of Malibu, California. McAllister's body was found two days later
with large sections from her legs and buttocks missing; Stoddard's body
was never found. |

P. Martin, 38, was attacked and killed by a 10 foot long Bull Shark
on September 13, 1988 while snorkeling near Shell Island at Panama City,
Florida. |

Conger, 28, was attacked and killed on September 15, 1984 by a Great
White Shark while diving in 15 feet of water near San Mateo, California. |

Lewis
Boren, 24, was attacked and killed by a Great white shark on December
19, 1981 while surfing at Moss Beach near Monterey, California. The
20 foot long shark bit through Boren's body and surfboard. |

Mark
Meeker, 26, was attacked and killed by an unknown type of shark on September
15, 1981 while swimming in Tampa Bay, Manatee County, Florida. Meeker's
body was found the next day and evidence suggested that Meeker survived
the initial attack but bled to death before reaching shore. |

Christy
Wapniarski, 19, was attacked and killed by an unknown type of shark
on August 10, 1981 when the sail boat she was on capsized near Daytona
Beach, Florida. Evisence suggests she was killed by the shark as she
was attempting to swim to shore. |

Stephen
C. Powell was attacked and killed by an unknown type of shark on July
16, 1976 while scuba diving off Kauai, Hawaii. Powell was bitten in
half and the lower part of his body was never recovered. |
||
Billy
Horne, 10, was attacked and killed by an unknown type of shark on July
2, 1974 while drifting in the Gulf of Mexico near the Florida Coast
after the boat he was on sank. |
||
Rodney
Temple was attacked by two Whitetip Sharks on October 14, 1972 while
scuba diving at Cane Bay near St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Temple's body was never recovered. |

John
Gibson, 25, was attacked and killed by a Galapagos shark on April 20,
1963 while swimming at Magens Bay, St. Thomas, USVirgin Island. Gibson's
body was taken by the shark however his hand was later recovered from
the inside of the shark. |

Fix, 40, was attacked and killed by an unidentified species of shark
on August 19, 1962 while surf fishing in waist deep water near Padre
Island, Texas. |

Jacob
Horn 45, was attacked and killed by a shark on October 1961. The remains
of his eaten body body washed ashore near Boca Raton, Florida and were
determined to have been caused by an unknown type of shark. |

William
J. Dandridge, 23, was killed by an unknown species of shark on June
24, 1961 while spear fishing near Key Biscayne, Florida. Experts analized
his remains which was missing the left side of his torso and arm and
concluded that Dandridge was the victim of a shark attack. |

Harold
Riley was attacked and killed on December 27, 1960 while net fishing
near Oahu, Hawaii. Witnesses saw a shark attackin deep water. Riley's
body was recovered near Nanakuli, Hawaii. |
||
Lt.
James Neal, 26, was attacked and killed on August 15, 1959 while spearfishing
in scuba gear near Panama City, Florida. His diving gear and clothes
showed evidence of a shark attack. Neal 's body was taken by the shark
and never recovered. |
||
Robert
Pamperin, 33, was attacked and killed by a 20 + foot long Great White
Shark on June 14, 1959 while diving for abalone near La Jolla, California.
Witnesses on the beach said Pamperin was grabbed by the shark feet first
and swallowed whole. |

Albert
Kogler, Jr., 18, was attacked and killed by a Great white shark on May
7, 1959 while swimming at Baker Beach in the city of San Francisco,
California. |
||
William
Weaver 15, was attacked and killed by a Tiger Shark on December 13,
1958 while surfing on an air mattress near Lanikai, Oahu, Hawaii. When
Weaver's body was recovered his leg was missing. |
||
Rupert
Wade, 57, was attacked and killed by a Great White Shark on July 15,
1957 while swimming in the surf at Atlantic Beach, North Carolina. |
||
Peter
Savino, 25, was attacked and killed by a Great White Shark on April
28, 1957 while swimming at Atascadero Beach near San Luis Obispo, California.
Witnesses saw Savino's arm hanging out of the sharks mouthafter the
attack. Savino's body was not recovered. |

Harold
Souza, 15, was attacked and killed on July 26, 1953 by an unknown species
of shark spearfishing near Oahu, Hawaii. |
||
Ralph
Reginald Rives Jr., 20, was attacked and killed on August 4, 1947 by
a Bull Shark while swimming in a local canal a few miles north of St.
Augustine, Florida. Rives survived the initial attack but died in the
hospital probably from blood loss from his severely bitten leg. |

Witnesses
reported that John Kuntsler was attacked and killed by an unidentified
species of shark on May 8, 1945 while swimming in Ocracoke Inlet, North
Carolina. |
||
Leonard
Gant was attacked and killed by an unknown type of shark on April 15,
1953 after his canoe sank and he was forced into the ocean near Maui,
Hawaii. |
||
Gordon
S. Chun was attacked by a pack of sharks on April 8, 1953 near Oahu,
Hawaii.after he was swept into the ocean while fishing in the surf.

Wilson, 17, was attacked and killed by a Great White Shark on December
7, 1952 while swimming near Pacific Grove beach, in Monterey, California. |

Gerbacio
Solano, 40 was attacked and killed by a Tiger Shark on December 3, 1952
while swimming at Maile Beach, Oahu, Hawaii. |
||
Shigeichi
Kawamura was attacked and killed by an unknown type of shark on August
3, 1952 while swimming near Oahu, Hawaii. When Kawamura's body was recovered
he had a shark on the right side of his body. |
||
Alejandro Nodura was attacked and killed by a shark while standing in
the surf fishing on June 25, 1951 at Kapehu Beach, Hawaii. Nodura was
last seen being taken out to sea in the shark's mouth. |
||
Gilbert
S. Hotta was attacked and killed by a shark on January 16, 1950 after
he was washed into the sea while fishing near Maui, Hawaii. Hotta's
body was recovered from the shark several days later. |
||
Joseph
Troy Jr, 16, was attacked by a Great White Shark on July 25, 1936 while
swimming near Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts. He died on the operating
table. |

W. Fountain, 38, was attacked and killed by an unconfirmed type of shark
on September 21, 1935 while swimming on the New River near Onslow Beach,
North Carolina. |

Clark Best Jr, 8, was attacked and killed by an unidentified breed of
shark on June 20, 1934 while wading in the surf at Melbourne, Florida. |

A. Burke, 18, was attacked and killed on August 24, 1926 by an unidentified
type of shark while swimming in the surf at a beach in Ocean County,
New Jersey. |

on July 6, 1916 while swimming about 350 feet from shore at Spring Lake,

Van Sant, 23, was attacked by a Great White Shark on July 1, 1916 while
wading in chest-deep water near Beach Haven, New Jersey. He bled to
death on the beach after being pulled carried bach to the beach. |

Sutton
Davis was attacked and killed by an unknown breed of shark on July 29,
1905 while wading at Davis Shore, near Beaufort, North Carolina. |

Joseph
Blaney was attacked and killed by a Great White Shark on July 12,1830
while fishing from a small boat near Scituate, Massachusetts. |
